Bussaco Forest, Luso, Portugal

Last year we had a chance to visit a friend in Portugal and they took us to the magical Bussaco Forest.

The forest is a wooded area with a variety of trees and a hotel that once was a monastery in the 6th century.

The wooded area was so beautiful and the lighting that day was ethereal!

The hotel has beautiful gardens and ponds where swans were swimming.

Marked paths meander through the forest for an enjoyable walk.

The Cold Fountain is a mountain spring that falls down through over 144 steps. Simply breathtaking!

Even better, that day, we just happen upon some unicorns and elves. No joke! (There happened to be a medieval theatre show that day and they were setting up! Coolest thing ever!) If you’re ever in central Portugal, don’t miss out on this fantastic piece of history and nature!
